A team of researchers from the Department of Cell Biology, Physiology and Immunology of the University of Córdoba announced the result of a study demonstrating that olive oil has a protective effect against various diseases.

Thanks to its high content of monounsaturated fatty acids (oleic acid) and polyunsaturated fatty acids (linoleic acid), olive oil provides other important benefits:

  • Raises HDL (good) cholesterol levels
  • Lowers LDL-c (bad) cholesterol
  • Benefits the control of arterial hypertension
  • Reduces the occurrence of thrombosis and prevents the onset of diabetes

The recommended daily intake is three to six servings. However, people suffering from obesity who are undergoing dietary treatment should control it by following their doctor's advice. The use of olive oil in Mediterranean cooking is essential. As a dressing for salads and stews, and even for frying potatoes.
